Free Tuition Available for Boys at Ballet Academy East

Jerry Hochman

It’s not exactly a state secret that there are far fewer boys than girls interested in taking ballet classes and/or considering becoming professional dancers. In an effort to address this gap, at least in the New York area, one ballet school in Manhattan is offering a radical potential solution.

Ballet Academy East, one of New York’s premiere dance training schools, has announced that it will offer 15 free tuition scholarships to qualified boys for the 2018-2019 school year.

In its announcement, BAE emphasizes that its Young Men’s Program delivers focused training, performance opportunities, and one-on-one mentoring to help young male dancers achieve success in the dance world. The programs, consisting of one all-male and one coed class per week, are open via auditions on August 22 and September 17 at BAE’s studios at 1651 Third Ave., Third Floor (between 92nd and 93rd Street), with possible additional venues and dates to be added.
